He was an apprentice to iron turning [1911] / an employee of C. Redman & Sons Limited.

He lived at Shepherds' Rest, Sowerby Bridge.

During World War I, he enlisted [September 1914] and served as a Private with A Battery 1st/4th Battalion Duke of Wellington's (West Riding Regiment)

He was killed in action, whilst on a working party near the firing line, he was struck by a bullet, which went through his heart, and he died immediately [16th June 1915].

The Halifax Courier [26th June 1915] reported his death with a photograph.

He was buried at Y Farm Military Cemetery, Bois-Grenier, France [Grave Ref D 41].

He is remembered in the Halifax Town Hall Books of Remembrance

He was a member of the Spiritualist Progressive Lyceum, Sowerby Bridge / an engine cleaner (loco works) [1911] / a fireman on the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Company at  Sowerby Bridge [1913].

During World War I, he enlisted during the first week of the War and served as a Private / Drummer with the 7th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment.

He was killed in action in France [17th February 1917].

The Halifax Courier [31st March 1917] reported his death with a photograph.

He is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial, France [Grave Ref 2C]

He had only been in France for 9 days when he was posted missing [14th April 1918] and was later confirmed dead [9th May 1918].

He was killed in action [14th April 1918].

The Halifax Courier [25th May 1918] reported his death with a photograph.

He is remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium [Grave Ref 99-102 & 162-162A], and on the Memorial at Saint George's Church, Sowerby

During World War I, he enlisted [January 1916] and served as a Private with the 2nd Battalion Durham Light Infantry.

He was reported missing and assumed to have died 15th October 1916 (aged 32).

It took several months for his death to be officially confirmed.

The Halifax Courier [2nd June 1917] reported his death with a photograph.

He was buried at Bancourt British Cemetery, France [Grave Ref VIII H 9].

He is remembered in the Halifax Town Hall Books of Remembrance
