Ceccardo Egidio Fucigna

[1836-1884]

The sculptor Ceccardo Egidio Fucigna was born in Carrara, Italy.

He was a member of the Academy of Ferrara, and studied Renaissance art in Florence and Rome.

He was active as a sculptor in England from around 1860.

He worked with architects such as Scott and Crossland.

He worked as chief assistant modeller to John Birnie Philip.

He completed the bronze statue of Edward Akroyd which was modelled by John Birnie Philip and originally erected at North Bridge.

He exhibited at London's Royal Academy of Arts 10 times between 1863-1879. Amongst the works which were exhibited at the Royal Academy are:

• 1876 The Last Supper. Executed for St Matthew's Church, Lightcliffe
• 1877 Lux Perpetua part of a tribute to Mrs W. H. Crossland

Other works in which he was involved include:

• The Kirkgate Buildings, Huddersfield
• Cardiff Castle
• The façade sculptures at the Royal Holloway College, London, and the majority of the figurative plaster work in the college chapel
• The Albert Memorial

In [Q4] 1865, he married Margaret Spink [1841-1921] in Chelsea
