James was in partnership with his brother-in-law Jonathan Sheard as Mansley & Sheard [until 1871].

In 1890, James established James Mansley & Company brewery at Albert Brewery, Halifax.

In 1877, he and John Marshall of Halifax, applied for a patent

for improvement in bottle stoppers

He married Nanny Sheard [1841-1883].


Nanny was the daughter of Matthew Sheard
