During World War I, and served as a Rifleman with the 5th Battalion London Regiment (London Rifle Brigade).

He was killed in France [12th March 1918] (aged 19).

He is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial, France [Grave Ref 9D], and on the grave of his Manks grandparents at Wesleyan Chapel, Southowram

He was interred with military honours at the New Methodist Chapel in Southowram.
