The Oak Room, Old Cock Inn
The Oak Room at The Old Cock, Halifax is on the first
floor.
It is oak-panelled and has a stained-glass window with 20
lights – some of the glass is original.
Contributor Anne Kirker has kindly given me details of the
individual panes of the window

The Eagle & Child is the Crest of the Lathams & now of the
Stanleys.
There are 2 stories.
One of their ancestors abandoned and exposed an illegitimate son in
an eagle's nest, and the eagle nurtured and fed him.
From this extraordinary circumstance, his father was induced to take
him back again, and to adopt him as his heir
A supposedly childless and elderly father arranged for the child to
be placed in the eagle's nest and to be discovered by a
faithful retainer, allowing him to adopt the child without having to
acknowledge paternity
