He was chairman of the Todmorden Gas Company.
He was a cotton spinner and landowner.
In 1842, he built – and lived in – Ridgefoot House, Todmorden next
to his Ridgefoot Mill.
On 7th July 1856, he was made a Magistrate at Todmorden.
He was a member of the Todmorden & Walsden Select Vestry [1838].
In October 1845, he married (1) Elizabeth Howorth [1820-1851]
at Haslingden, Lancashire.

On 12th October 1853, he married (2) Mrs Mary Wilson
(née Greenwood) [1815-1898] of Ewood House, Todmorden, at Christ Church, Todmorden.

stone gives the date 16th February 1896.

In his will, Abraham directed that a medical clinic should be
built as a gift to the town.
In 1938, his trustees built the Abraham Ormerod Clinic on the site

On Monday 5th April 1915, he went to Burnley Fair and bought a young
horse.
He led the horse home, and when he was about 2 miles from his farm, a
motor car passed.
The horse became very restive and plunged wildly, one of his hooves
striking Ormerod's head, smashing his skull.
A passer-by picked him up and Dr Elliot was called.
Ormerod was taken home by the Todmorden Corporation ambulance.
He died noon the next day

with the Lancashire Fusiliers.
He died 22nd April 1920 (aged 22).
He was buried at Shore General Baptist Church, Todmorden.
