John Lamb Reed OBE was born in County Durham.
He became a singer, dancer and actor.
He was a principal comic baritone with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company. He was the only artist in the group's history to record all 13 Gilbert & Sullivan operas. He was called
the last great exponent of the G & S rôles
He toured in London, Canada, Australia and the USA, and performed before the Royal Family on several occasions.
He retired from the D'Oyly Carte Company and came to live in Calderdale.
He directed and performed with the Savoyards Appreciation Society. His first production with the group was The Yeoman of the Guard [1982].
He went on to direct other productions and toured Britain and the USA.
He died following a stroke, on his 94th birthday
