SACRED
TO THE MEMORY OF
JOHN  ATHERTON OF RASTRICK,
IN THE COUNTY OF YORK, ESQUIRE,
IN THE COMMISSION OF PEACE, FOR THE
COUNTY PALATINE OF LANCASTER,
AND ALSO FOR THE
WEST RIDING OF THE COUNTY OF YORK.
LATE CAPTAIN IN THE 6TH THE ROYAL FIRST,
WARWICKSHIRE REGIMENT OF FOOT.
WHO DIED AT HIS SEAT WOODHOUSE, YORKSHIRE,
ON THE 3RD OF OCTOBER, 1845,
AGED 52 YEARS,
AND IN INTERRED IN THE FAMILY VAULT.
     
ALSO OF MARGARET ARMITAGE
ONLY DAUGHTER OF THE ABOVE NAMED
JOHN ATHERTON ESQUIRE,
WHO DEPARTED THIS LIFE AUGUST 25TH 1844,
AGED 7 MONTHS.
     
"WE HAVE AN ADVOCATE WITH THE FATHER, JESUS
CHRIST THE RIGHTEOUS, AND HE IS THE PROPITIA-
TION FOR OUR SINS"
