I originally asked if anyone could identify the uniform, and Luke Groves told me
It may be the Duke of Wellington's Regiment (West Riding) as they wore that style of Indian Elephant collar badge and he's an Infantry Colour Sergeant.The Crown appears to be Queen Victoria era and he may (possibly) be wearing a Reserve Long Service Medal, which has a green ribbon, denoting service in one of the Volunteer Reserve Battalions.
He may have always been a Reservist or could have Regular service then left and carried on serving in the Reserve. He also appears to have crossed rifles on his left forearm above the cuff denoting him as a Marksman proficient in skill at arms
