Daniel Jones Crossley

Daniel Jones Crossley was the son of Henry Crossley of Hebden Bridge.

He was baptised in 1842.

He was educated at Littlewood's School, Rochdale.

In 1858, Josiah Wade and his brother John began to work for Crossley, making horse rugs for the export market. The Wade & Crossley families were neighbours at Machpelah, Hebden Bridge [1850s].

Around 1863, Crossley set up business as a cotton manufacturer, D. J. Crossley & Sons.

On 13th May 1858, he married Hannah Riley [1786-1856] at St Michael's Church, Mytholmroyd.

On a journey to the USA, Crossley was one of a group of travellers aboard a boat which capsized at Panama. One of the party lost a leg after being attacked by a shark or alligator.

For the last 7 years of his life, illness prevented him leading an active life.

Daniel died in Todmorden [Q3 1907] (aged 83)

His burial place is not yet known
