Around 1835, Jane and Susan Walton ran a Ladies' Boarding School at 18 Ward's End, Halifax.

In 1841, it is listed with Jane Walton and Eliza Hudson [teacher]. There were 12 girls, aged 8 to 15, and 1 boy [Frank Crossley], aged 6.

In 1845, only Jane Walton is recorded.

In 1851, Jane Walton had a ladies' boarding school at St John's House, Halifax.

The following names were recorded

By 1865, it had become Cusworth's School
