St Michael's Church, Mytholmroyd stands on Church Street.
Mytholmroyd Parish Church is an Early English style church built by Mallinson and Healey. It is a Million Pound Church. The foundation stone was laid on 6th September 1847, and the Church was consecrated on 8th September 1848.
The Church has a small octagonal spire on top of a battlemented tower.
The dowager Queen Adelaide was amongst those who subscribed to build the church.
There are mosaics of the Apostles and the northern Saints on the walls of the chancel.
An organ by Kirtland & Jardine was installed [1851]. This was moved.
A new organ by William Andrews of Bradford was installed [1912]. Details can be found in the National Pipe Organ Register.
In 1887, it was enlarged by Francis Healey and Thomas Henry Healey.
On 14th April 1888, the foundation stone was laid for a new chancel, organ chamber and vestries. These were to be built at an estimated cost of £2,000.
The Sunday school was built in 18??.
In November 1906, Mary Ann, wife of John Cockcroft, erected a monument on the north wall of the Church which reads
In Loving Memory of my mother MARY APPLEYARD (late Briggs) of White Lee who died 1889 aged 77. Also of my brother John Appleyard MB FRCS of Clifton Villas, Bradford who died 1905 aged 57. |
In 1917, Mary Ann gave a bequest to pay for new faces on the clock at the Church. A plaque inside the Church records this
The Opal dials on the clock in the tower of this church were given in affectionate remembrance of BENJAMIN WHITTAM & GRACE BRIGGS also of HENRY BRIGGS MD JP formerly of Mytholmroyd by their niece MARY ANN the wife of JOHN COCKCROFT 1917 Upper White Lee House |

The records for the Church are held at the West Yorkshire Archive Service office in Wakefield (Collection WDP98): Baptisms [1844-1944], Banns [1848-1963], Marriages [1848-1959] and Burials [1849-1949].
On 1st January 1910, a memorial window to Dr J. H. Thompson was unveiled at the Church.
In the 1970s, the Sunday school was reduced from two storeys to one. This is now the church hall
