
William Swinden Barber was born in Southowram, the son of John Barber.
He was baptised at Southowram [29th March 1832].
He was an architect's apprentice [1851] / an architect [1871] / a partner in Jones & Barber [1857-1859] / a partner with James Mallinson at George Street, Halifax [1868-1871].
It is said that he was a colourful, Bohemian character in his private life and given to dressing up in oriental or mediæval fashion.
On 10th October 1877, he married Anne Byrne [1832-1909] at St Mary's Church, Easton Grey, Wiltshire.
Anne was born in Whaley Bridge, (now Derbyshire), the daughter of Henry Byrne, of Slead Hall, Brighouse. She was baptised in Taxall, Cheshire [12th August 1832]
They had no children.
They lived at
With his father, he bought Bonegate Hall, Brighouse, and lived there for a time. He sold the Hall to Richard Woodhouse.
He subsequently built and lived at Farfield, Halifax.
William died in Hampshire [26th November 1908] (aged 76).
Sarah died in Paris [14th March 1909] (aged 75).
