The actor Jimmy Thompson appeared in several light-comedy TV and film rôles

There are a great many gaps in this biography, and I should welcome any news and information which you can supply to fill in the gaps in my knowledge about Jimmy Thompson


Jimmy Thompson was born James Edward Thompson in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England on 30th October 1925.

He was educated at St Peter's, York.

He first toured with Jean Forbes-Robertson's company.

In [Q3] 1956, he married Nina Brinckley [19??-1999] in Middlesex.


Nina was a white Russian who had to leave Russia with her family at the age of 5 in 1922
 

The couple had 2 children: Roddy who is a Professor of Mathematics at an American University and is an ordained priest, and Sandra who owns and runs a hairdressing business with her husband in France

In 1956, he performed a sketch entitled Ich Liberace Dich in a West End revue and later on TV in Sunday Night at the London Palladium, in which he called the pianist, Liberace a sugar plum fairy. He was subsequently called as a witness in a libel case in which Liberace won £8,000 damages against the Daily Mirror. Liberace then sued Thompson, but settled out of court for an apology and a donation to an actors' charity.

Jimmy and Nina wrote the 1959 musical The Quiz Kid.

In 1975, they wrote The Englishman Amused.

After Nina's death, he moved back to Yorkshire and lived in York for the rest of his life.

He retired in 1999.

He died in York [21st April 2005]
