Dr Frank King was a crime writer from Norton Tower, Halifax.
Son of Frank King of Illingworth.
He was educated at Rishworth School and Bradford Grammar and then studied medicine at Leeds.
On 1st June 1915, he married Annie Naylor at Saint John the Evangelist, West Vale
Annie was the daughter of S. Naylor of Clay House
Children:
During World War I, Harold, a Lieutenant in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, was killed on 26th February 1943.
Margaret committed suicide by drinking poison, a few days later
Their infant son John was brought up by his grandparents Frank & Annie King
Frank served in the Middle East and opened a practice in Rhodes Street, Halifax.
His first novel was published in 1924, and he wrote many others – averaging 3 per year – and short stories and articles. Many of his works were used as screenplays and radio plays. Some were written under his pen name Clive Conrad.
In 1930, he won a competition for one-act plays organised by the British Drama League.
He was a member of the Thespians and a founder member of the Crime Writers' Association.
He was a member of the Halifax Authors' Circle
