Christopher Tate Rhodes

Christopher Tate Rhodes was the son of Samuel Rhodes.

He was born 14th August 1843.

His name has been written Tait.

He was

• A member of the 2nd West Riding Yeomanry under Colonel Edwards [1860s]
• A grocer at Skircoat [1865]
• An accountant [1871]
• A chartered accountant [1881]
• Bailiff as his father's deputy (for 20 years) 
• A solicitor [1886, 1891, 1901].

  He had offices at Commercial Bank Chambers, Halifax, and occupied the same Chambers for 40 years. When he relinquished his practice [1927], he was the oldest solicitor (in age), although Joseph Walshaw was his senior in practice. He specialised in agricultural matters

In his young days, he was a brilliant athlete and was a boxer, jumper, cyclist and swimmer, and was known for performing tricks in the water. In 1893, he was present when Woodside Baths opened and he jumped into the water fully-clothed wearing laced-up boots and a top hat and undressing down to his bathing suit in the water.

On 24th August 1865, he married Maria Wilkinson.

• 20 Wade Street, Halifax [1871]
• 23 Hampden Place, Halifax [1881]
• The Dudwells, Dudwell Lane [1891, 1901, 1905]

There were visitors, lodgers and boarders with the family: cousin Emily Mitchell (aged 39) [in 1881]; visitor Nasib Juresdini [aged 30] born Turkey, a merchant from  Manchester [in 1901]

He died at 4 Heathfield Place on 10th August 1934, only 4 days before his 91st birthday

He was buried at All Saints' Church, Dudwell
