The will of John Brodley, clothier of Halifax [1594]
John Brodley of the Gemeres in Halifax, clothier, left a will 18 Feb 1594/5.He left his houses, tenements etc in trust to J Firth of Roidhouse in Sowerby [The Royd, Sowerby], his father in law, William Drake of ?ee in Northowram [The Lee, Northowram], Gilbert Dean of ?ighsalton ?? [High Saltonstall, Warley] and William Brodley of Halifax his brother, to sell the property for the use of his two sons, Thomas and John, equally divided.
He has already handed the property to Michael Savill and Gilbert Drake, customary tenants of the manor of Halifax.
The tuition of the older son Thomas to Richard Gott, his father in law and the tuition of John the younger son to John Firth his father in law.
His wife Hester to be executrix.
Witnesses: John Firth, Gilbert Dean, William Drake, Michael Savill, and William Brodley
Probate: 29th January 1595 [1595/6]:
