Documents relating to Elias de Hutton

Granted two oxgangs of land in Thistleton, land in Grenole [Greenhalgh] called Quitakur, the homage and service of Walter de Grenole, and acquittance of multure at his mill of Grenole, to the Abbot and cannons of Cockersand, to whom his father had previously given his manor of Hutton.

Grant in frankalmoign from Sapientia, wife of Elias son of Roger [son of Orm] [to the canons of Cockersand] of a fourth part of Bradford mill, that is, the moiety of that half part which she held by right of inheritance of the heirs of Roger de Howick rendering yearly to her and her heirs 2 shillings at the feast of St Martin for all service. [S.D. 1190-1218]

The canons also had the release of Richard de Howick to the said Sapientia; the release of Robert son of Elias de Hoton [Hutton] to the same; the release of Adam son of Mary and Dionisia his wife to the same, respecting that portion of the said mill; and the charter Roger de Howick which he gave to Roger son of Orm respecting that mill.

Grant in frankalmoign and release by Elias son of Roger [de Hutton] [to the canons of Cockersand] of the moiety of Hutton mill belonging to Howick with the waters of Wimoth and Bradford and all appurtenances as the charters of Sapientia his wife of Abel and Emma his wife of Antigonia in her widowhood of Cecily and Margaret [daughters of Elias de Hutton] in their own right and of Matthew and Helen his wife more fully bear witness; saving to the heirs of Roger de Howick by the assignment of the lord Abbot, four shillings yearly at the feast of St Martin [S.D. 1212-1220]

Grant in frankalmoign from Elias son of Roger de Hutton to God and St Mary of Cockersand and the brethren serving God there for the health of his soul and the soul of his wife his ancestors and successors of the messuage which was formerly Richard Schade's (Scathe) with the toft croft and orchard and the land lying between [land of] Adam Linnian [sic] and of Ysolt, the grantor's daughter and the Croke lands next to the road from the town and the land between [land of] Hugh Bonel and Jordan Moor in width and in length from the marsh to the headland and the land of Lairclade unto Calf, as Calf runs down into the Great Pool and as the Pool goes up towards Lairclade; and the land lying between land of St Mary of Penwortham unto land of Richard Schathe upon the Great Marsh in width and in length by the sand to the Pool; and the moiety of the fishery of Stammine, and three nets to be freely fixed in Ribble water anywhere within the bounds of Hutton; and Warin son of Robert Scharre [his villein] with his sequel [or off-spring]. He also granted that the men of the Abbey dwelling on that land should be quit of multure. With warranty.

Confirmation by Elias son of Roger de Hutton to God and St Mary of Cockersand and the canons serving God there of three carucates of land being the whole town of Hutton in Leylandshire.
