John William Wainwright



John William Wainwright was born in Leeds [25th February 1921].

After World War II, he joined the Police and served for 20 years in Elland, Brighouse and Clifton before becoming a writer

He wrote around 80 crimes novels between 1965 and 1992.

He wrote about his experiences of policing Brighouse and Clifton in his book Wainwright's Beat [1987].

His fictional works include

and his non-fiction

The character Tosh who appears in his books is based on Tom Lawrence.

He died in Blackpool [19th September 1995]
