Harold Hiley was the son of John Hiley.
He was a member of Hope Lodge of Oddfellows, Todmorden / a cotton weaver of 3 Russell Street, Cross Stone [1911] / a weaver at Hollins Mill, Walsden.
On 29th April 1911, he married Martha Walker at St Peter's Church, Walsden.
Martha, a spinner of 149 Knowlwood Road, Walsden, was the daughter of Alfred Walker
They lived at
During World War I, he enlisted [Whitsuntide 1915] and served as a Private with the 2nd Battalion Duke of Wellington's (West Riding Regiment).
In late 1917, he was wounded in the arm in France, and was in hospital in England for eight or nine months before returning to France about June 1918.
He was killed at Harcourt, France [30th August 1918] (aged 27).

He was buried at Vis-En-Artois British Cemetery, Haucourt, France [Grave Ref I E 34].
He is remembered on Todmorden War Memorial, on the Memorial at Saint Aidan's Church, on the Memorial at Roomfield Baptist School, Todmorden, and on the Memorial at Oddfellows' Hall, Todmorden
His brother-in-law Thomas Henry Walker also died in the War.
