William Cryer, the son of John Cryer, cotton weaver, was born in Walsden.
He was a cotton weaver of Chapel Street, Walsden [1873] / a cotton weaver [1881, 1891, 1901, 1911].
On 31st May 1873, he married (1) Harriet Ashworth [1851-1889] at St Peter's Church, Walsden.
Harriet, a cotton weaver, was born in Walsden, the daughter of James Ashworth, butcher
Children:
Harriet died 17th December 1889 (aged 38)
On 25th October 1890, he married (2) Mary Hannah [1851-1907] at Cross Lanes Chapel, Hebden Bridge.
Mary Hannah, was the daughter of Thomas Sutcliffe, and the widow of John William Howorth.She had 3 young daughters by her first marriage:
- Mary Alice Howorth [b 1879]
- Florrie / Florence Howorth [b 1884] who was a cotton spinner [1901] Evina Howorth [b 1886] who was a cotton weaver [1901]
who were living with their mother [1891, 1901]

Living with them [in 1901] was Mary Hannah's widowed father Thomas Sutcliffe.
Mary Hannah died in Todmorden in 1907 (aged 47).

The Cryer sons served in World War I:
- Frank was killed in the War
- Jesse served with the 1st Devons and was shot through the jaw by a sniper in France, losing all bar one of his molars
- John enlisted in the 3rd/6th Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers, (since the age limit was raised to 40)
- Willie was formerly a member of the Walsden and Todmorden Brass bands, and served in the regimental band of the 2nd/6th Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers
William died 5th July 1916 (aged 62)
