In [Q3] 1910, he married Mabel Annie Holt in Todmorden.
Mabel Annie was born in Todmorden, the daughter of Greenwood Holt.She was a dressmaker [1921]

During World War I, he served as a Private with the 10th Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales's Own).
He was killed in action [27th February 1917] (aged 32).

Private Bernard Greenwood, son of Alderman Thomas Greenwood, Cornholme – and brother-in-law of the lamented Company Sergeant Major John Mason – was killed in action in France, on the 27th of February, aged 32.He joined the West Yorkshires [October 1916] and was sent to France in January 1917.
He spent several weeks learning signalling.
He was a printer by trade and a member of the Typographical Association.
He was a member of Cornholme Liberal Club. The flag at the Club was lowered to half-mast when news of his death was received.
He was connected with the Cornholme U. M. Church and Sunday School, serving the latter as an organist. He was also in the Chapel choir
The Todmorden & District News [6th April 1917] added
Private Bernard Greenwood, killed by a German sniper on February 27th when he tried to move from a shell hole half-filled with water to a nearby trench. The bullet struck him in the back, killing him instantly
He was buried at Owl Trench Cemetery, Hebuterne, France [Grave Ref A].
He is remembered on Todmorden War Memorial, and on Cornholme War Memorial.
His brothers-in-law John Mason & Harry Baron also died in World War I
