He was recorded as Priestley Leach until 1881, and as Dr Priestley Leech from 1891.According to a note left by Alderman Frederick Austin Leach, the change of surname came about because of a clerical error at Owens College, Manchester University, where his surname on his LSA certificate in 1884 was shown as Leech and not as Leach which apparently could not be changed so he had to practice as a Doctor as Priestley Leech

He was a scholar at Norfolk Place, Halifax [1871] / a medical student [1881] / a junior house surgeon at Warrington Infirmary / a Registered General Medical Practitioner [1891] / a physician and surgeon at Halifax [1895] / Medical Officer at the Halifax Infirmary & Dispensary [1895] / President of Halifax & District Medical Society [1900] / honorary surgeon to Halifax Infirmary [1905] / a surgeon at the Royal Halifax Infirmary specialising in the treatment of Breast Cancer for which he carried out over 100 operations the results of which were published in national medical journals, including The Lancet / a surgeon [1901, 1911, 1921].
He contributed papers to the leading medical journals. As a prominent medical person in Halifax, his name frequently appears in the Halifax Courier & Guardian in connection with various medical appointments in the town.
On 10th October 1885, Priestley Leech married Emma (Emmie) Milson Bowyer [1855-1920] at Rusholme, Chorlton in Lancashire.

Priestley died at Heathroyd Nursing Home, Halifax. [7th February 1936] (aged 73)
